Top Comment: There was a time when I saw the Ramones play at least twice a year. Then they were done. Same goes for X. All good things must come to an end. Catch them if you can, their final tour continues through October. X

Friend of mine had Xband, We played killer instinct on SNES all the time against people.
It was my first time doing anything online back in the 90's. I have very fond memories.
Do cops still use K or X band radar?

Driving through rural Illinois right now and I have K and X band muted on my Valentine One. This thing hasn't gone off once in 150 miles. Do rural cops still use X and K for some reason?

Don't speed, it's bad. Follow the laws you dirty criminal. I accidentally went over 65 once and had to pull over and report myself at the nearest police station.
Did anyone ever use X-Band for Super Nes or Genesis? If so share your X-Band stories.

Top Comment: I used to play it on the snes. Local matches only. Long distance was expensive. I got to know the people pretty well. From what I remember it didn't used to show the number it would call but I could hit redial on my phone and talk with other people locally. I remember freaking people out when calling. Lots of moms picking up and weird silences when I ask for someone by whatever bizarre screen name they had. I had weird ass names like LunarLunatic or xxreddogxx. Looking back it was incredibly rude to cold call those gamers but I was a kid and couldn't care less. It was a great way to set up matches. Typing on a controller was very time consuming. It was my first taste of emails outside of using a computer at a library. Friends and I used to email random people. I used it to communicate with a few pen pals I used to exchange actual letters with. There used to be a service where you paid a couple bucks and it gave you random people to exchange letters with. I was a nerd and used it to talk to girls. I don't remember how much it cost. My parents footed the bill. I was restricted to local only. I used it mostly for killer instinct. That had a really large player base. Mario kart was also popular. There was enough of a delay to really screw up combos but I got scary good at that game just for xband. Looking back I remember the social aspect of it a lot more than actually playing it. It was a lot if fun. Many years ago I accidently wiped my xband memory and lost everything. I had ridiculously long password on every profile so I couldn't get into them anymore anyway. You could setup passwords like left right up down x a shoulder. Edit: It was *69 I used to call people. It would call the last person who dialed in to me for a match. So I only knew their numbers if they would provide them. I built up quite a few numbers at one point that I would bug if I couldn't get a match going. I remember referring to most people by their screen names. Most of us were dorky kids so I think we all got a kick out of being someone different.

Man, I remember this thing. I heard about it from our local electronics store. But it wasn't sold anywhere, so I ended up having to order it from a catalog. Unfortunately, we lived in a small town in North Dakota at the time and there were no local players out there. So every match I played was long-distance. After seeing that first phone bill, my parents pretty much hit the roof and told me to cancel the service. I was hesitant of course. But eventually gave in and we disconnected our service.
A group of hackers are trying to bring xband back online!

This is my xband beta cart for genesis. I'm aware this isn't worth anything, but I feel it's extremely rare. I'm referring to the clear case opposed to the black retail ones.
ELI5: Why don't police radar guns use X band anymore?

K and Ka band RADAR guns were developed for police because of the interference that's common on X band.
Many police stations still use X band, but that's mostly older equipment that hasn't been replaced yet.
